Greenville Arena District Unveils Plan for Bon Secours Wellness Arena
Plan includes expansion and modernization of arena plus addition of a 6,500-seat amphitheater
Posted On: April 17, 2025 By :The Greenville Arena District, owner and operator of Bon Secours Wellness Arena, today unveiled a master plan that reimagines the arena and 12-acre site as an entertainment district and a gateway to the South Carolina destination.
The plan envisions a new 6,500-seat outdoor amphitheater along with significant renovations and expansions to the 25-year-old, 15,500-seat sports arena that has made itself the home of SEC women’s basketball conference tournament.
“For 25 years, the Arena has proudly served as a cornerstone of entertainment and economic vitality. To continue being a resource for the area, we needed a comprehensive roadmap for a future where we remain a top destination for world-class entertainment and sporting events,” said Beth Paul, general manager of Bon Secours Wellness Arena. “This master plan reflects the needs, expectations, and aspirations of our entire community and positions the Arena for the next 25 years and beyond.”
Plans include modernizing the back-of-house areas within the arena with double the loading docks and enhancing back areas by 18,000 square feet; adding 22,000 square feet to the concourse level with more accessible seating, expanded restrooms, improved circulation and additional food and beverage options; and transforming an asphalt parking lot into a 6,500-seat outdoor amphitheater and a mixed-use development.
The arena district aims to finalize the plan by the end of the year, intending to begin the most critical arena improvements in 2026 or early 2027.
“This is our opportunity to build on the legacy of those who came before us,” said Neetu Patel, chairman of the Greenville Arena District Board. “The master plan we are presenting today is about updating a building and protecting a vital community asset for the next 25 years and beyond.”
