Charlotte to Host 2027 CISM Military World Summer Games
Will be the first time the United States has hosted the event
Posted On: April 4, 2025 By :The 8th CISM Military World Summer Games in 2027 will take place in Charlotte, the first time the United States will host the Games.
The CISM Military World Summer Games gather approximately 10,000 military athletes from more than 100 member nations competing in 25 different sports. The CISM Military World Summer Games is second only to the Olympic Games in terms of international participation and the 2027 event will be the first since Wuhan, China hosted the Games in 2019.
Charlotte’s venues including the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, Charlotte Motor Speedway and other sports facilities will host an array of competitions, ranging from traditional Olympic sports such as swimming and basketball to military-specific disciplines like military pentathlon, parachuting, naval pentathlon, lifesaving and shooting.
The bid for the 2027 Games was a collaboration including the U.S. Department of Defense, sports organizations and the Charlotte Local Organizing Committee, which includes the U.S. Performance Center and state and local government agencies.
“We are honored to bring the CISM Military World Summer Games to the United States for the first time,” said Colonel Nilton Rolim, CISM president. “Charlotte’s outstanding sporting facilities, organizational expertise and commitment to the values of CISM make it the ideal host for this historic event.”
Beyond competition, the 2027 Games will feature a cultural and educational program. Military athletes and officials will engage in cultural exchange activities, community outreach programs and discussions on topics such as the role of sports in military training, leadership development and global peacekeeping efforts.
